Earthquakes and Hurricanes

As a colleague of mine put it, “If I were someone who believed in Apocalypse and Armageddon, Doomsday, Last Days prophecies………….I would think that this was it.”
A huge part of the earth has been hit in the last one year by some form of Mother Earth’s angst - the tsunami in Asia, hurricanes a dime a dozen in the Americas – the new one being Aunt Wilma, the recent earthquake measuring a 7.6 again in Asia.
It is easy to go and wage a war against a country and so also to put a person on trial. But what does one do when the perceived threat is from the Forces of Nature. No amount of artillery or bloodshed would be of any use here.
Is it a way of the Intelligent Designer (up for debate but that’s not the point here…) to warn human beings? Is she (again up for debate.
) trying to bring humankind together thro these disasters? Does it need an earthquake for India and Kashmir to see people are the same on both sides of the Siachen? Does it take a tsunami for the West to notice the East? Would it take hurricanes for people to see that when people suffer it is the same whether in Africa or America.
Tragedy brings deep despair, intense loss to multiple people. Will the world at least unite in despair if not in happiness??

So true... So true...
It's been 60 years since the end of WWII... It seems the world still hasn't learnt any lessions... If the trillions and trillions of dollars that was spent all over the world on weapons and wars over the last 60 years were instead spent on fighting poverty, protecting the environment, finding cures for diseases, space exploration, etc, i wonder how the world would look today...

You know what I think? I think, it is "PRALAYA" - payback time - If you exploit nature, she unleashes the fury.

During moments of intense pain or pleasure the organism experiences a melding of senses ... these peak experiences create a union of mind body and breath !

So you will find people who torture (by your perception) themselves and seem to be enjoying it ! And you will also find people pampering themselves (again .. by your perception) and enjoying it.

So we don't need a tsunami or a festival to trigger this experience. Its all within .. 'the kingdom of heaven is within you' .. as Jesus said.

Each organism contributes to the collective consciousness .. we notice our head only when it aches or when we are getting an awesome massage. Hence the east only notices the west when that region aches and vice versa.

Some people say 'we are all huge sinners!' and claim that this is divine retribution. But I beg to differ – to each his own, I guess. In my opinion, this is not really out of range of normal; it's just atypical within a single person's lifetime maybe. All these disasters only reverberate the inevitable truth - We are mortals that have limited control of what happens around us. Like you said, now is a good time for us to pick up the pieces and rebuild a world that is free of wars and synthetic disasters. God bless.

Very true, it takes a disaster for the west to notice the east...but at disastrous times like these, we have also seen that humanity still exists. Yes there are many who would like to destroy in the name of religion etc. but incidences like the tsunami & the earthquake have shown that people still care for each other. At such times people have come forward in large numbers to lend a helping hand. Whatever you said is very true, but I think these instances can make us feel optimistic that there is still scope for the world to be a better place...one can't change the world...guess it depends on each one of us as an individual.
